I've been coming here since the day they opened. There is so much to love about Ocotillo - delicious food and I enjoy the atmosphere of all the different dining areas. I have eaten in every one of them Some days I go just to have a drink or coffee, and other days I will go for a full meal. I went for my birthday during this past "restaurant week." Seven of us sat out in the beer garden. They must be understaffed these days because the help was very rushed. It seemed like we were mid sentence and the Server was already walking away from us. I had to get up a couple different times to get us plates and grab silverware. What was super annoying is that they made all of us have to either order off of the regular menu or all of us off the fixed menu. Since the majority of us were going for the fixed menu, the other two people were basically "forced" to do the same as majority rules. We were paying with separate bills so we just couldn't comprehend why our friends could not just order a small plate and pay on their own bill. It was quite ridiculous. The worst part was that three of us are gluten-free and we paid the set price on the fixed menu . The fixed menu included an appetizer, the main plate and dessert. The server had come over and told all of us that they were not offering the gluten-free cake as they ran out and that they had ice cream for us. The three of us settled on ice cream, but were not happy at all. We had all agreed to get the fixed menu at $55 a person . that included the cake. Did we say we wanted ice cream? No. When you give us a fixed price and tell us what we're getting, that's what we expect to get. I would never order a scoop of ice cream at a restaurant . Boring! Server didn't really care and didn't even bother to adjust our bills. We all walked away feeling it was wrong. I left a voicemail for the manager to call me . . Never got a call back. Hence 4 stars. Could have given less stars based on service, but I wouldn't do that to them because I enjoy the food. I just think they need to know that they can do better.
Smoked brisket on Parmesan polenta Smoked brisket, on a bed of Parmesan polenta, topped with a fried egg, crispy onion, and brisket jus FORK tender brisket! The polenta is perfectly cooked, cheesy, all seasoning on point, the jus had the exact right level of beefiness We had a lot of other drinks I didn't review because I didn't think I'd be doing a review 10/10 would recommend, would return No pic because we fat kidded out before I could get one
We recently had the pleasure of enjoying Ocotillos menu at Sidecar Social Club (the little bar to the right before the restaurant. Everything about my visit was splendid!! We wanted the delicious food from Ocotillo but also a fine cocktail. And Sidecar Social Club fit the bill. The ambiance and service were great. It was a cool evening for it being September in the desert. And I delighted in being outside, next to the dozens of string lit trees and vast open space. It was good for the souls after being indoors most of summer. The drinks at Sidecar were original and fantastic!! We had the Apollo and Starlet. I loved the Starlet!!! We definitely ordered too much food. And don't regret it. I want to order everything on the Ocotillo menu. The chef knows what he is doing. And I imagine the kitchen is well run. The gem salad was truly a gem. I have day dreamed of it a few times since. I could have been satisfied with that alone. (And Starlet, of course) The wings were sticky deliciousness. I only wish they were served with wet towels/wipes. We also enjoyed the market fish (halibut ) and pasta with ragu. Oh my. They were both perfect. It was one of those nights I wished I could eat more. I will definitely return!
We came here for dinner on 9/14 with my family and our experience was spectacular! Our server John was so attentive, knowledgeable and overall fun. We enjoyed the food & ambiance! We were impressed by the restaurant manager Austin checking in on us and not only that he checked in at every table which is so awesome to see! We will definitely be back!
Service was excellent. No lingering here with the staff they were working hard making sure everything was perfect The big negative was the table placement. This is not a fast food type restaurant so I really don't want to be part of the conversations of the diners on either side of me. Started with the Balsamic strawberries herbed ricotta. The strawberries were AMAZING. I could have eaten just a those in a bowl. More ricotta would have been nice. We had the buttermilk pork chop and the pappardelle with beef Ragu sauce Both were excellent. The ragu was sublime. There was a little heat in the sauce which was so good. My chief complaint with this dish was the really small bowl it was served in. Made it really hard to maneuver the food. The bread was perched in a precarious manner on the edge of the bowl The pork chop was tender. Delightful combination with the apple. Once more the size of the bowl/plate and maneuvering the chop to cut was an issue. The meal was so good and the anticipation of the dessert menu was pretty high. When I saw the menu I thudded to earth pretty quickly. There was the ubiquitous flourless chocolate cake or lemon blueberry cake. I am sure both would have been nice, but after such a great meal the dessert selection was sad
After several more visits, Ocotillo has become one of our favorite spots and well worth a 5 star rating. It's a lovely place to spend a weekend morning enjoying tasty food in the gorgeous courtyard. This is truly a gem and I envy those that live in the neighborhood! Our favorites are the charred sweet potato, eggplant meatballs, and burrata salad with wine poached pear. I'm not even a big sweet potato fan, but it's really delicious and super creamy. The poached pear and burrata salad also has this delicious whipped goat cheese. The eggplant meatballs are so good and filling. They have a nice cocktail menu as well. On this last visit we opted for the Garden's Apple and Hibiscus Haze mocktails, which were crafted with as much care as the alcoholic drinks. I preferred the slightly sweeter Garden's Apple over the other, but both were good!
My family and I had such a great brunch at Ocotillo. The service was the real star here! Our server was so friendly and funny and we weren't rushed at all. The space is really big - we sat in the dining area behind the host stand and it was super bright and sunny with comfy seating. The food was good! Not great but still tasty. My favorite thing we got was actually the endive salad. It was fantastic! We also got the breakfast chimichanga (good), smoked brisket (really good), a side of bacon (floppy), and brussels sprouts (meh). I've also had their fries before and they are to die for. My aunt got the eggplant meatballs to go and said they were so amazing as well. The menu is diverse with a mix of healthy and indulgent options - there is something for everyone. I do think the prices are a bit high for what you get, but I'd gladly pay for the salad and fries again any day.
